  • Flights are still inexpensive. Book soon to secure these low prices.
  • The wedding is Thursday May 10th, 2018.
    • Egypt is 6 hours ahead of the U.S – you will lose a day when travelling to Egypt from the U.S. so plan accordingly.
  • Calculate how many days you will have in Egypt. There are MANY things to see in Cairo, by the sea, cruising down the Nile or 4-wheeling in the desert.
    • See more below. Internal flights in Egypt are all booked through Egypt Air.

Is Egypt safe?

Safety

As is often the case, the way the American media covers Egypt is designed to get views/clicks and illicit a reaction. Sadly this bias paints Egypt in an unfairly negative light.

First, a few facts about the wedding itself.

  • The wedding will not be held at a Coptic Church. The entire event (ceremony, reception, party) will be at the Mena House Hotel in Giza, right next to the pyramids. (4.5/5 on TripAdvisor with 1,500 reviews)
  • The Mena House is located within a secured compound and has excellent security staff.

Egypt makes the news, but how does it actually compare?

  • Earlier this year, Forbes compiled a ranking of the most dangerous countries for Americans to travel to. This data is based on travel warnings issued by the State department and violence towards American tourists. Egypt is not on the list. In fact, Mexico is statistically far more dangerous to visit as an American.
  • Via TripAdvisor and the UK’s FCO: “In general, Egypt is a safe country to travel. Egyptians are very friendly - if you are in need of assistance they will generally try to help you as much as they are able, more than any one can imagine.”
  • Egypt’s crime rate is #55 in the world. U.S. is #14. Brazil is #1.

That said, Egypt, like anything, is not without its risks.

  • Most countries warn against traveling to Sharm El Sheikh and other areas near the Sinai because those areas were dangerous in the past. We will not be going there.
  • There was a revolution in 2011 and Egypt was a big part of the Arab Spring. More on that if you’re interested. The political situation, while stable, is ever-changing.

Egypt's tourism is on the rise of late and we hope to see you in Cairo at the Pyramids!
